The story

1884. These are not wealthy Parisians. These are factory workers and their kids on a day off. Seurat gave them the same treatment usually reserved for Greek gods and biblical heroes. A massive canvas, for regular people sitting in the grass. He was barely out of art school. The official Salon said no. So he helped start a new exhibition just to show it. He would be dead seven years later at 31. But in that short time he rewired how people thought about painting.
