Flowering Orchard and Schoolchildren

Impressionism

The story

Jenny Montigny was one of the only women in the Belgian Impressionist circle. Her teacher Emile Claus got most of the credit. History barely kept her name. But look at this painting. What gets you more here? The blossoming trees, the light playing hide and seek through the leaves, or the hat covered kids heading to school on a warm spring day? Nothing here is staying. Not the petals, not the afternoon, not that age. She knew that better than most.
