A Farm in Brittany

Post-Impressionism

The story

Gauguin was a stockbroker in Paris. Good salary, wife, five kids, a hobby he loved. The market crashed in 1882. He decided painting was no longer the hobby. It was the plan.

He followed his wife and kids to Copenhagen. Lasted a few months. Went back to France, chose Brittany. Nothing matches what Brittany actually looks like. The roofs aren't red. The fields aren't this warm. He was painting a world that only existed in his head. What he wanted to feel, not what was in front of him.
