The story

Before making geometrical grids, Mondrian painted farms and trees like this one. But look close and the geometry is already there. Branches splitting into perfect little squares, the house mirrored in the water like a math problem. Painted in Holland, 1916, right before he dropped the trees completely and kept only the lines.
