Klimt was considered provocative and even scandalous at the time. His works for the University of Vienna were rejected and called pornographic.
The Kiss was different. The Austrian government bought it before it was even finished.
Some say the man is Klimt, and the woman is Emilie Flögé, his lifelong companion.
