The story

He taught Van Gogh about color.

John Peter Russell, an Australian who moved to France, actually helped Van Gogh understand color in a way he hadn't before. They painted together. They wrote letters. And then history forgot Russell almost completely. This is his garden in Longpré, 1887. Those blossoms sitting in that warm golden air. You can feel the exact moment spring takes over. Some painters get famous. Some just get it right.
