Van Gogh painted many cottage scenes in Auvers, but this one is twice special. First, it belongs to the series of double-square panoramas he made at the very end, canvases so wide they were already built for your 16:9 screen. But mostly, this may be the last painting he ever worked on, or one of the last two or three. It's unfinished, and not on purpose. On July 27, 1890, Van Gogh never got the chance to go back to it.
