Terrace of a Cafe on Montmartre

Post-Impressionism

The story

The place was called The Wooden Billiards. One of dozens of taverns on Montmartre. Up on the hill, wine was cheap and absinthe was cheaper. Poor workers, broke artists and political radicals shared the same tables. Parisians climbed up here to break the rules, if they dared. Van Gogh chose this place to start breaking his own.
