1880. Camille is dead. Monet is 38, broken, writing desperate letters begging friends for francs to buy canvas. Sometimes to eat. The man who already painted Impression Sunrise and Woman with a Parasol is at a breaking point. But he goes outside and paints this. Willows. A river. Some rooftops in the distance. Vétheuil in the morning. His lifeline. He has no idea Giverny is just a few years away.
