Saint-Rémy, 1889. Van Gogh was locked inside a mental asylum and the view from his room was a walled wheat field. He watched a peasant plow it through every season. He painted the same field again and again, and once told Theo the figure working the land was the only thing that made him feel sane. The windmill in the distance? Probably a memory of Holland sneaking back in.
