The story

By the time Montezin painted this, Monet was old, Renoir was gone. The art world had moved on to Cubism, Surrealism, abstraction. Impressionism was supposed to be over. He kept painting it anyway. Called it the poetry of ordinary scenes. Rejected by the Salon ten times. Made it the eleventh year. From there, his blossoming landscapes won medals and acclaim. He stayed impressionist all his life. And he was the last one.
