Tulip fields in Holland

Monet painted this in 1886. Same year Van Gogh landed in Paris, suitcase full of gray, muddy canvases, still painting like Holland owed him nothing but shadow.

Nobody can prove he saw this exact painting of Holland. But he saw what the Impressionists were doing with color that year, and it hit him hard.
