You've probably heard the story. Van Gogh only sold one painting in his lifetime. This is that painting. November 1888, Arles. He had just walked past this vineyard with Gauguin and the autumn light turned the leaves into something he couldn't ignore. He painted it from memory. A few months later, it sold for 400 francs. That's it. One sale. The rest of the world caught up about a hundred years too late.
