Abstract

The story

Kandinsky was 70 and living in a small apartment outside Paris. The Nazis had just shut down the Bauhaus and labeled his work degenerate. He had every reason to go quiet. Instead he stretched a canvas almost 6 feet wide and filled it with circles, staircases, pink blobs, and a giant yellow sun. After a lifetime of exile, after losing two countries and two homes, the old man picked up the biggest brush he had left and threw a party on the wall.
