Maynard Dixon painted this one year before he left. Lungs failing, still chasing the desert. He had carried the original sketch of those Inyo Mountains in his files for 20 years before he finally put it on canvas. The man spent his life split between two worlds. Illustrator by day to pay the bills. Desert wanderer whenever he could escape. Married to Dorothea Lange. Two people trying to preserve a vanishing America. One with a camera. One with a brush.
