Pauline Palmer didn't have to fight her family to become an artist. Her parents saw the talent early and backed her, no drama needed. Then her teacher noticed her too. Not just anyone. William Merritt Chase himself, one of the biggest names in American art, pushed her to go to Europe and study. She went. She won a silver medal at the Academy. And when she came home, she became the first woman ever to lead the Chicago Society of Artists.
