This one was made a few weeks after Starry Night, in the same conditions. Vincent was in Saint Remy, where he wasn't allowed to paint at night. He'd look out his window when he couldn't sleep, then paint the scene the next day. In 2003, a team of forensic astronomers used star charts, old weather records, and the actual landscape around the asylum to figure out the exact moment this moon rose over that ridge. July 13, 1889. 9:08 PM. Vincent had painted it right.
