La Sirène, trendy restaurant by the Seine. Van Gogh loved it. He and Signac used to stop for lunch between painting sessions. He got close with the owner and eventually set up an exhibition inside with works by Toulouse Lautrec and Émile Bernard, his avant garde friends. Until the owner told him the paintings were ruining his customers' appetite. The argument was vocal. Vincent left with the paintings in a handcart . Still made the owner's portrait as a thank you.
