It has been in private hands for most of its life. No postcard. No poster in a dorm room. It moved between collectors while the Starry Nights and Sunflowers got all the attention. Late 1889. By that point Van Gogh's color choices were not decorative anymore. They were physical. This canvas is a battle of colors, fighting each other to grab your attention. Some paintings become famous. Others just stay powerful.
