The Large Walnut Tree Autumn Morning Eragny

Impressionism

The story

We love autumn. They didn't. Too much brown, too much darkness, too much of the Romantic era they spent their whole careers running away from. If you go through the impressionist catalog, autumn is almost absent.

Pissarro didn't paint autumn. He painted his garden in Eragny. The village he chose, the land he knew for 20 years, the walnut tree outside his window.

It happened to be October.
