Roses in the Garden at Petit Gennevillier

Impressionism

The story

Caillebotte painted his own garden. That's his house at Petit Gennevilliers. The woman in blue is probably his companion Charlotte Berthier. And that little black dog sitting on the path, waiting, watching her, not caring about the roses at all. That's a Schipperke. A real dog with a name and a daily routine. Caillebotte wasn't painting impressionism. He was painting a Tuesday afternoon at home.
