The Kitchen Garden Yerres

Impressionism

The story

This is actually a kitchen garden. Real vegetable plots, laid out in strict French style, just to show off. It wasn't Caillebotte's idea, it was his family's, at their estate in Yerres, south of Paris. Not his project, not his hobby. He paints it anyway. Not for the vegetables. For the lines. The symmetry, the paths, the structure underneath all that green. That's what he actually loved.
