When Van Gogh arrived in Paris he didn't know anyone besides Theo. He started hanging around Père Tanguy's paint shop in Montmartre, the den of avant-garde painters. He met Signac there, one of the Pointillists, and they became friends. Together they would walk from Montmartre to Asnières, and together they placed dots on canvas. Later, Van Gogh would drop the dots. But not the friendship.
