The story

One year Monet had one son. Then Alice moved in with her six children while her husband fled creditors. Then two more arrived. Nobody asked too many questions.

Just like that, nine kids around the table.

Those two small figures lost in the middle of the field. That's Michel, Camille's son, 10 years old. And Jean-Pierre, Alice's. Big sister keeping an eye on both of them under her parasol.

Monet had a gift for that. Taking something complicated and making it look like light.
