The story

This is the Villa Roses, in Trouville. Almost a castle. A spectacular ocean view. If you wanted to show off on the Normandy coast, this was the house.

Caillebotte painted it, but he never lived there. Next door was his choice, the Villa Italienne, the one that shows up in his painting Rising Path. More modern architecture and style. Money wasn't the question. Taste was.
